Where and When To Go
Tired of looking for the best place to hunt? On Kodiak Island, the hunter in your life can look no further.
Nestled right on the south side of Kodiak Island sits the quiet native village of Old Harbor which holds a plentiful amount of Sitka Blacktail deer – one of the smallest of the deer family living on Kodiak Island. Here, you’ll find plenty of game trails and plots to help track deer, sure to put a big smile on the face of your favorite hunter!
The ideal time of year begins when the temperature begins dropping and the snow starts falling. Though hunting season begins in August, the best hunting is right during the holiday season – in November and December.
Late in the year, when the snow begins falling in higher elevations, this drives the deer down. And this is also the time when the rut begins – thus forming the perfect conditions for a fantastic week of Alaskan hunting on Kodiak Island.
How Does it Work?
When you book an all-inclusive trip with Kodiak Sportsman’s Lodge, you’ll be getting a first-class experience that not even the most avid hunters can boast about. For six days and seven nights, your hunter will be transported to his or her hunting location and returned to the lodge just in time to relax, grab a phenomenal Alaskan meal, and sleep in a warm bed to rest and recharge for the next day’s hunt.
The full price of the trip includes the following:
- Lodging
- Meals and snacks
- Beverages
- Transportation to and from the hunting grounds
- Transportation to and from the lodge (via a private charter)
Keep in mind that the all-inclusive trip does not cover hunting or fishing licenses, tags, or stamps. But you can find updated fees for hunting and fishing here.
What Else?
Alaska is a place of extremes. As such, even after your hunter bags his buck, there’s still plenty to do. And there’s nothing wrong with passing the time hunting for duck, fox, or fishing for winter King Salmon and halibut. But don’t forget about the lodge experience itself.
At the Kodiak Sportsman’s Lodge, each of our rooms has a private bath and complimentary daily maid service. So, you can rest assured that when your hunter returns from a day of hunting, they’ll be coming home to a clean room ready for a great night’s sleep.
Your hunter will also love hanging out in our upstairs lounge – complete with WiFi and satellite television, but they’ll probably want to swap hunting stories or brag about how they bagged that big buck while sipping on a tasty cocktail.
Visiting Kodiak Island is truly a magical experience for any outdoorsman. And also in the secluded region you’ll find a few other settlements including Larsen Bay, Port Lions, Karluk, and Akhiok. With all of these unique communities, if anything, your hunter may also want to explore the entire archipelago. But at the end of the trip, they’ll want to come back and stay with us again.
